Innovakote began as the technology arm that developed early processes for converting powder coating overspray into usable raw material. The company agreed to purchase the IP that pioneered a gentle mix and melt approach that transforms overspray and off spec powder into specification ready recycled material.
Today, Innovakote continues as a legacy brand representing that early innovation, while the full circular economy system is operated by the manufacturing group, Coatings by PCD / Surplus Coatings
Innovakote maintains the licensed technology and recycling framework originally created for circularity in the powder coating industry.
All manufacturing, recycling, and R&D production, and large-scale recycling operations are handled through our licensed manufacturer Coatings by PCD / Surplus Coatings
The process converts overspray, overruns and baghouse fines into a stable recycled material without degrading quality. The key steps include:
- Sorting & color separation
- A gentle, low-energy mix and melt process
- Conversion into recycled “chip” raw material
- Use as a raw material or finished powder coating
This creates a circular pathway where unusable powder coating becomes new material rather than landfill waste.
Most thermoset powder coatings can be recycled, including polyesters, TGIC, and hybrids.

Yes. Recycled material maintains the inherent performance characteristics of the original coating because the resin, additives, and chemistry are unchanged during our low energy process.
The recycled chip can be used as:
- A raw material by powder manufacturers, or
- A finished powder coating in select color families.
All intake programs are administered through Surplus Coatings, including:
- Overspray collection
- Expired inventory recycling
- Baghouse fines programs
- Zero-waste circularity solutions

Innovakote’s technology was built to support true circular systems, where overspray can become:
- new raw material for manufacturers, or
- new coatings for applicators.
This reduces landfill waste, reduces raw material demand, and supports large Scope 3 carbon-reduction goals across the coating supply chain.
All commercial programs, customer pilots, and recycled content integration are handled through Surplus Coatings / Coatings by PCD, the operating and manufacturing arm.
Innovakote remains the underlying innovation brand and historical technology platform.
